On the new year most of the people couldn't send or receive whatsapp messages .This happens due to many reasons first is the network collision which means all people start communicating (send messages) at one time .So as servers are made to handle limited number of requests in this it turns into network collision .
Second reason arises due to busy web servers which conduct operation in real time severs now these real time servers are servers which notify that messages has been delivered and read (BLUE TICK )
Besides in outage of whatsapp ,service was resumed within 2-4 hours .
